Italian schools to strike against education reform bill

ROME, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Italian schools will close up on March 26 in a strike against the government's planned education reforms, Italian trade unions' officials said on Wednesday.

The 24-hour stoppage, called by Italy's major trade unions, coincides with a four-hour general strike against the government's pension reform bill.

Schools would have been affected by the general strike in any case but unions decided to extend the teachers' walkout in order to send a strong protest message to Italian Education Minister Letizia Moratti.
