Roundup: Australia not to yield to asylum seekers on hunger strike

CANBERRA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Canberra proved its determination to be tough on immigration policy when handling the on-going hunger strike by Australian asylum seekers on the tiny South Pacific Island of Nauru.

The hunger strike, which entered its fifth week Wednesday, now involves 33 men refusing food and water in protest against Australia's tough immigration policy.

They are a part of the 284 asylum seekers, including 93 children, in an Australian detention camp which was set up on Nauru in 2001 to discourage asylum seekers.
