S. African president continues work program after allergic reaction

JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- South African President Thabo Mbeki continued his work program on Monday as doctors tried to pinpoint the food ingredient that caused him to have an allergic reaction at the African National Congress (ANC) election rally on Sunday.

Mbeki was to meet ANC leaders in the afternoon as scheduled, said presidential spokesman Bheki Khumalo. On Tuesday, he would leave on a two-day state visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The president experienced difficulty breathing while addressing the rally at the Harry Gwala stadium in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu- Natal province.
