Former Nigerian president calls for locally produced polio vaccines

LAGOS, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's former president Ibrahim Babangida called on the federal government Tuesday to produce polio vaccines locally, saying the production of such vaccines " will solve the controversy surrounding the national immunization program."

Babangida's call came on the heels of President Olusegun Obasanjo's flag-off to the second round of the 2004 national immunization exercise on Sunday.
