Former Nigerian president calls for locally produced polio
vaccines
LAGOS, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's former president Ibrahim
Babangida called on the federal government Tuesday to produce polio
vaccines locally, saying the production of such vaccines " will solve
the controversy surrounding the national immunization program."
Babangida's call came on the heels of President Olusegun
Obasanjo's flag-off to the second round of the 2004 national
immunization exercise on Sunday.
On the controversy bedeviling the exercise, Babangida told
reporters that Nigeria had failed to brace up to the challenges of
local vaccine production since the introduction of the immunization
