US music sales recovery continues in 1st quarter: report

LOS ANGELES, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The recovery of US music sales continued in the first quarter of this year, according to the Nielsen SoundScan report released Saturday.

Overall US music sales, including CDs, legal downloads and DVDs, rose 9.1 percent in the first three months of the year over the same period in 2003, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada.

Album sales increased 9.2 percent, and sales of CDs, which represent 96 percent of album sales, rose 10.6 percent.
