US Defence Secretary Rumsfeld to visit Dhaka

DHAKA, June 1 (Xinhua) -- US Defence Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is expected in Dhaka on June 5, the United News of Bangladesh reported Tuesday.

It is likely that he will request the Bangladeshi government to consider sending troops to Iraq after the planned transfer of its sovereignty to an interim government on June 30.

A senior official in the foreign ministry was quoted as saying that the US defence secretary would hold talks with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan and make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Rumsfeld reportedly would come to Dhaka after attending APEC meeting in Singapore.
