Wal-Mart to pay 3.1 million dollars fine for storm water runoff

WASHINGTON, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the largest retailer in the United States, has agreed to pay a 3.1 million dollars penalty for storm water runoff from its store construction sites across the country, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said Wednesday.

Wal-Mart also agreed to reduce storm water runoff at its construction sites by instituting better control measures, thereby setting an industry standard for developers and contractors, said the EPA in a press release.
