Chinese Taipei Olympic medalists to get lifelong stipend

HONG KONG, June 18 (Xinhua) -- To encourage athletes to excel in the Athens Olympic Games, Chinese Taipei has mapped out plans to award medalists with lifelong stipends, local media reported on Friday.

Under the plan, winner of a gold medal will receive 75,000 new Taiwan dollars (2,223 US dollars) per month for life, silver medalists will get 38,000 new Taiwan dollars (1,126 dollars) each and bronze medalists will ...
