There are two types of people in the world: Those who look forward
to April Fool's Day and those who don't. My family has both kinds,
which will make things a little tense around the Kelly household
today.
Me, I love practical jokes. I found some Washingtonians who love
them just as much. Here are their stories.
For several years in the early 1980s, Lorraine Swerdloff was a
member of that odd social set known as a carpool. Up before the sun,
she piled into a vehicle that journeyed five days a week between
Howard County and K Street NW.
"When you're riding for at least an hour each way, you do get
bored," said Lorraine, "so anything to jolly up the circumstances was
