Australian Carrigan wins women's road race at Athens Olympics

ATHENS, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Australian cyclist Sara Carrigan won the women's road race at the Athens Olympics with a time of 3: 24:24 on Sunday, ahead of German Judith Arndt and Russian Olga Slyusareva.

Arndt finished second in 3:24:31 and Slyusareva was third in 3: 25:03.

"It was a difficult and unexpected race. I am feeling great because of my victory. I will never forget the day", said the 24- year-old Australian star, who won the first place in 2002 World Cup road race in Geelong, Australia.
