British doctors urge Blair to ban smoking in public places
LONDON, July 5 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair on
Monday got letters from 4,500 doctors urging him to ban smoking in
public places in the country.
Representatives of the British Medical Association (BMA) delivered
the letters to the doorstep of Blair's Downing Street residence in a
giant cigarette packet labeled "Passive smoking kills. Smoke-free
work places save lives."
"We want to see an immediate and legislative ban on smoking as is
currently enforced in the Republic of Ireland," Dr. Peter Maguire,
one of the organizers of the BMA action told BBC radio, adding that
