UN chief welcomes new timetable for presidential, parliamentary elections in Afghanistan

UNITED NATIONS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Friday welcomed the decision made by Afghan's electoral authorities to hold presidential elections on Oct. 9 and delay national and local parliamentary elections until April 2005.
