Relief work successful in quake-jolted villages in SW China

ZHAOTONG, Yunnan, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The homeless are sheltered and the wounded are receiving medical treatment three days after the earthquake in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Friday.

Water and power supplies and road transportation have been resumed. Rescuers were removing unstable buildings, said sources from the department of civil affairs in Zhaotong.

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit the city and its suburb counties Tuesday, leaving four dead, 594 wounded -- 167 severely injured.
