British terror suspect wanted by US remains in custody
LONDON, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- A court in London ordered Friday that
a British terror suspect wanted in the United States be held in
custody until a further extradition hearing on Sept. 10.
Babar Ahmad, arrested in London on August 4 on a US extradition
warrant, was accused in the United States of raising money to support
acts of terrorism in Chechnya and Afghanistan via websites and email
between 1998 and 2003.
Judge Christopher Pratt at Bow Street Magistrates Court turned
down the US government's request for Ahmad to be handcuffed after
Ahmad's lawyer Joanna Evans pointed out that the court was blanketed
by heavy security and ...
