Thai government admits spread of GM papaya

BANGKOK, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Thai Agriculture Ministry admitted that it has found genetically modified (GM) papaya on a farm in northeastern Khonkaen province and was determined to eradicate all such farm produce, local press said here on Wednesday.

The ministry discovered one GM papaya out of 239 analyzed samples, Agriculture Minister Somsak Thepsuthin was quoted by The Nation newspaper as confirming.

The specimen were selected from 2,600 farmers who bought papaya strain seedlings from the Agricultural Research and Development Office, he added.
