GM papaya trees fallen down in Thailand
BANGKOK, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Some 1,000 papaya trees suspected of
being genetically modified (GM) were fallen down and buried in
northeastern Thailand, local press reported on Thursday.
The papaya trees belonged to a research program carried on in the
province of Khon Kaen, some 449 kilometers northeastern of Bangkok.
"The ten-year research aimed at improving disease resistance in
papayas was destroyed, along with the experimental crops," Wilai
Prasartsri, a research station director, was quoted by Bangkok Post
as saying.
The papaya trees were buried in two meter-deep holes in the ground
