Turkish Cypriot PM to stand in presidential election

NICOSIA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat has declared that he would stand in next April's presidential election in northern Cyprus if there was no progress in reuniting the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities, local press reported Thursday.

"If the Cyprus problem is not solved by the time of the presidential election, I will stand," Talat, who favours a settlement, was quoted as saying.
