Cardiff may not be playing the stuff of champions, but probably
only Leicester among the European cognoscenti are able to match them
for dogged determination on their own patch.
The result left both sides in with a chance of qualifying for the
last eight - Montferrand should win Pool Five by beating Glasgow next
weekend, and Cardiff can take one of the two runners-up spots
available if they win at Northampton. But while it may be wrong to
draw too much in isolation from a well-matched contest on a dank day
at the Arms Park, there was little to suggest either team have much
chance of returning in late May for the final next door at the
Millennium Stadium.
