Thailand reports 11th death of bird flu infection
BANGKOK, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- A nine-year-old Thai girl has died of
bird flu, becoming the 11th victim of the disease in the country, the
public health official said here on Monday.
The girl, who entered hospital on Sept. 30 with bird flu symptoms,
died on late Sunday night, hours after she was confirmed of being
infected with the bird flu virus, said Kamnuan Ungchoosak, chief of
the Health Ministry'communicable disease control department.
The girl was believed to contract the virus through helping her
grandmother plucking infected chickens at her home in the province of
Phetchabun, some 346 kilometers north of Bangkok.
