Vietnam to develop automobile industry

HANOI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese government has just approved an overall plan on developing its automobile industry by 2010, with the main target of manufacturing more made-in-Vietnam vehicles and raising the proportion of locally-made components in assembled products, according to sources from the Ministry of Industry on Monday.

Under the plan, the automobile industry will meet 40-50 percent of the local demand for trucks, buses and cars, and 30 percent of the demand for special-use vehicles in 2005. The respective targets for 2010 are over 80 percent and 60 percent in 2010.
