Backgrounder: Democratic primary in U.S. state of South Dakota
WASHINGTON, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Democrats Hillary Clinton and
Barack Obama battled in the primary in South Dakota Tuesday, one of
the two remaining contests of the Democratic presidential primary
election cycle.
South Dakota is a state located in the Midwestern region of the
United States.
The state ranked 17th in area and 46th in population with 781,919
residents.
In 2005, the Census Bureau estimated that 88.5 percent of South
Dakotans were white, 8.8 percent were American Indian or Alaskan
Native, 2.1 percent are Hispanic and 0.8 percent are Black.
