Article: New air ambulance takes to the sky and appeals for public aid

A new air ambulance dedicated to serving Bath has taken to the sky.

The Great Western Ambulance Service's new helicopter can reach every part of the former Avon area within eight minutes.

It is crewed by paramedics and doctors and carries advanced life- saving equipment to travel to serious incidents.

It began work this week and will initially fly five days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday, up to eight hours a day, from a base at Filton, Bristol.

Like most similar services, the air ambulance will rely on the public's generosity.

When there are enough public donations, the flying time will be extended to seven days a week, up to 12 hours a day.
