Ife is full of disappointments, so seven days on, I am just going
to have to be brave and resign myself to the fact that Gordon Brown
is not going to give me an early morning call. Mind you, the Prime
Minister has been very busy - I can tell that just from reading the
newspapers.
I can see, for instance, that Brown is very anxious that I should
be spared a terrible death, so much so that he is going to insist
that Parliament should allow terrorist suspects to be detained
without charge for up to 42 days, instead of the present 28.
So am I reassured? Well, I'm afraid I'm not, because the
extension of time which Mr Brown seeks is already provided for in
the Civil Contingencies Act 2002.
