I can see, for instance, that Brown is very anxious that I should be spared a terrible death, so much so that he is going to insist that Parliament should allow terrorist suspects to be detained without charge for up to 42 days, instead of the present 28.

So am I reassured? Well, I'm afraid I'm not, because the extension of time which Mr Brown seeks is already provided for in the Civil Contingencies Act 2002.
