Article: One family's dog adoption saves one life at a time for rescue group

WOOSTER -- Adopting a "rescue" pooch means a lot of hard work; but it's worth the effort, one family says.

Lisa and Dave Woods and their teenage children, Daniel and Amy, adopted 4-year-old Jewel from Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network, a nonprofit organization that "rescues" dogs from harmful situations, provides foster care and places them with new families.

Jewel, nicknamed Jujubean, previously was a breeder dog at a puppy mill, Lisa Woods said.

The dog's owners contact the rescue network when they have a large group of dogs that would otherwise be put down; the network gets as many dogs as it can and sends them to foster homes until "forever homes" can be ...
