ECB president hints at possible rate hike in July

BERLIN, June 5 (Xinhua) -- European Central Bank (ECB) President Jean-Claude Trichet hinted at the possibility of a rate hike next month after the ECB decided to leave its benchmark lending rate unchanged at a six-year high of 4 percent on Thursday.

The clearest signal so far for a rate hike was sent by Trichet at the press conference after the ECB governing council meeting in Frankfurt.
