DAME JUDI DENCH'S won her seventh Bafta award last night for her
moving and disturbing portrayal of the novelist Iris Murdoch and her
struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
The best actress prize for Iris could be the start of a momentous
month for Dame Judi, who is nominated for an Oscar for the same role.
Her screen husband in the film, Jim Broadbent, did not win an
award for that role, but received a Bafta for best supporting actor
for his part as the flamboyant compere in Moulin Rouge.
There was no award, though, for Moulin Rouge's leading lady,
Nicole Kidman, even though she attended the ceremony at the Odeon
Leicester Square last night. Neither were there prizes for Kate
Winslet or Sissy ...
