Article: Snell lasts 5 innings in 3-1 loss to Diamondbacks

Pirates pitcher Ian Snell piled up nine strikeouts Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Unfortunately for Snell, he also piled up pitches.

Hampered by erratic control and a bruised back, Snell was bounced in five innings, as the Diamondbacks cruised to a 3-1 victory.

"I think I did all right," said Snell (2-6), who is winless in his past 10 starts. "I was more aggressive. I threw my fastball more."

Trying to break out of his six-week funk, Snell altered his off- day routine. He threw two bullpen sessions, one on flat ground and another off the mound, between starts.
