Article: Cudahy panel backs store plans; Wal-Mart proposal; wins key vote

Cudahy -- After a key member changed his vote, a proposed Wal- Mart Supercenter won an important, if precarious, step toward reality Tuesday night, gaining Plan Commission approval of its conceptual plans.

The move also affects the fate of a proposed Milwaukee Wave indoor soccer facility.

The site plans failed in a 4-3 vote last month, with commissioners deadlocked and Mayor Ryan McCue casting the deciding vote against the project.

On Tuesday, Craig Faucett, a plan commissioner and the city's director of engineering, changed his previous vote to yes, but only after insisting that the vote be contingent on the developers coming up with sufficiently attractive architectural plans.
