Article: Perception skills keep top tennis players on the ball

TOP Tennis players have powers of perception that allow them to judge speed and motion better than others, a study has found.

The findings could explain why players like five times Wimbledon champion Roger Federer are so hard to beat.

A team from Federer's home country, Switzerland, conducted tests on 18 tennis players who competed at a national level.

Their performance was compared with that of 18 national-level triathletes who did not play tennis, and 19 non-athletes.

In one test, participants had to watch two displays of moving dots on a computer screen and select which were travelling faster.
