HINTON - Officials in Hinton have created a citizens' patrol with
a retrofitted Jeep to help catch a serial arsonist.
After a string of unsolved arsons, the town is asking residents
to sign up for classes later this month for training with police.
The hope: watchful citizens on the streets of the Summers County
town will catch or deter an arsonist who officials say has started
at least eight blazes since December.
"Everybody knows we have an arsonist here and I am determined not
to let this town burn down around me," neighborhood watch
coordinator Virginia Hatcher said.
The most recent fire was on May 25, according to Scott Rodes, the
assistant state fire marshal investigating the blazes. ...
