Humberside Police is looking to recruit members of the public as
"investigative officers".
An advertisement says applicants require "experience of
collating relevant and accurate information in an investigative
capacity and lots of initiative".
But experienced detectives have reacted angrily, believing the
force's "modernisation" plan looks like a cost-saving move.
Humberside Police Federation claim across the force area up to
370 police office posts could be lost as a result.
One detective, who asked not to be named, said: "If your house
was burgled who would you want investigating it? Would you want a
full-time detective with bags of experience behind him on a fixed
contract or someone ...
