Slovak to reinforce military presence in Afghanistan

PRAGUE, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The Slovak government has agreed to significantly expand the country's military presence in Afghanistan, the Czech news agency CTK reported on Wednesday.

According to the plan that still needs to be approved by parliament, three guard units will leave for Afghanistan to serve at military bases within the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission.

A 50-strong unit is to start operating in the turbulent province of Uruzgan in the second half of the year, according to the plan announced by Defense Minister Jaroslav Baska in April.
