Article: POLICE TO ACCENT HIDDEN HOUSE NUMBERS ADDRESS BLITZ TO HELP EMERGENCY RESPONDERS

In an effort to get more residents to make their addresses visible for emergency responders, the Evansville Police Department will hold a home-numbering blitz next week.

The program, sponsored by the West Sector Weed & Seed, offers residents the chance to sign up and receive a visit from officers who will stencil their address on a surface in front of their homes in the correct size and display, per Evansville code.

Police Chief Brad Hill said homes that lack clearly labeled numbers make it much harder to quickly find crime scenes or people in distress.

"When you're trying to find something in a hurry, that makes it very difficult for emergency personnel," he said.
