Customers at a city post office are fighting to keep it open -
stressing they simply can't get to the next nearest branch.
People using under-threat Pennycomequick post office said that
if the branch closes they will face a long slog to the Cecil Street
branch in Stonehouse.
For people living in the Millbridge end of Stoke it would mean
either a long round-the-houses walk, or tackling one of two flights
of steep steps leading from Victoria Park to North Road West.
The steps, which are often frequented by loitering drunks and
drug users, can be dark and intimidating in winter and treacherous
under foot in freezing weather.
