Music at Gloucester Cathedral by Esther Platten, Development
Manager, Gloucester Cathedral
Choral Music has been an important part of Gloucester Cathedral
for centuries. The modern choir of 20 choristers and 9 professional
men, called Lay Clerks and three Choral Scholars are successors to
the original choir of monks and boys who lived and worked at St
Peter's Abbey.
Music can be heard in the Cathedral 365 days of the year, whether
it be the daily services sung by the Choir and the Youth Choir and
additional services sung by visiting foreign or parish choirs, to a
varied programme of concerts and recitals.
