The community of a moorland village has voted unanimously to keep
its post office open.
A referendum in the Bodmin village of St Breward, run and
adjudicated by North Cornwall District Council, showed people do not
want to lose the service.
Out of the 438 people who turned up to vote on the question "Do
you want to retain your Post Office in St Breward?", every voter
said "yes".
There was no provision for proxy voting or postal voting and
voting was limited to the hours of 4-9pm, so anyone who could not
attend pre-signed a declaration of their intent to vote "Yes".
This amounted to another 29 votes and, although this does not
count in legal terms, those campaigning for the post office ...
