Nearly everybody loves that new car smell, but what's up with the new shower curtain smell?

A study released today by The Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow and the Center for Health, Environment & Justice found that new shower curtains made with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) released more than 100 toxic chemicals into the air.

The study urges an immediate phase-out of PVC in all shower curtains.

New curtains can contain high levels of volatile organic compounds, which can cause eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches, loss of coordination, nausea, and damage to the liver, kidneys and central nervous system, according to the study.
