Seven chimpanzees arrived at their new home in Cle Elum on Friday
morning after serving as laboratory test subjects for more than 20
years.
The Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest is one of only nine retirement
homes in the country that provide chimpanzees with a comfortable
escape from life in the biomedical or entertainment industry.
Annie, Burrito, Foxie, Jamie, Jody, Missy and Negra are the last
group of chimpanzees used by the Buckshire Corp. in Perkasie, Pa.,
for scientific research.
"I think it's just a sign of the times that less and less chimps
will be exploited in captivity," said Diana Goodrich, the
sanctuary's director of outreach.
