A new $2.4 million scholarship fund will be established at St.
John's College to honor the founder and chairman of Atlantic
Records.
Ahmet Ertegun, the record company's founder and chairman who died
in December 2006, graduated from St. John's in 1944.
Money for the scholarship fund was raised last November during a
benefit concert in London that included Led Zeppelin.
Proceeds from the fund were divided between St. John's and
colleges in the United Kingdom and Turkey.
"He was one of our most illustrious alumni," Rosemary Harty, St.
John's communications director, said yesterday. "He started Atlantic
Records and changed the face of music forever."
