Article: Town nears deal ensuring golf course remains as open space

ROCKLAND

The town is close to completing a $499,000 deal to guarantee the Rockland Golf Course will never be built upon.

Selectmen unanimously agreed Monday to buy a conservation restriction on the golf course from the Trust for Public Land.

The deal must be completed by the end of the month to ensure that the town qualifies for a $329,000 state self-help grant, and that the 74-acre golf course remains in operation for the foreseeable future.

The balance will be paid by the town with money already provided by the Trust for Public Land, said project manager Chris LaPointe.
