Article: BZP pills 'sold as ecstasy'

Drug dealers are passing now- illegal BZP pills off as ecstasy to unsuspecting casual users, police and substance experts say.

Drug researcher Chris Wilkins has published a report cataloguing Kiwis' use of substances over eight years.

Wilkins said that during his research he heard of cases where BZP had been sold as ecstasy.

To those with little or no experience with drugs, BZP could have similar but minimised effects.

This meant drug pushers could sell the illegal but low- cost BZP for higher prices. Tests by laboratories had confirmed several drugs bought as ecstasy were BZP, Wilkins said.
