Dance Academy DJ Tom Costelloe had a passion for music and wanted to make the club one of the best in the country, a Plymouth drugs trial heard.

Costelloe's barrister Alan Newman QC told Plymouth Crown Court that when his client was taken on as a manager and DJ by Dance Academy owner Manoucehr Bahmanzadeh he had agreed to respect the zero tolerance policy on drugs, "and he kept to his word".

Mr Newman said his client's attitude to drugs had changed over the years.

"He used in the past occasionally to take ecstasy but that was many years ago," he said.
