APPEAL judges have trebled an "unduly lenient" sentence of 11
months' imprisonment imposed on a man who killed his friend in a
fire after trying to give him a fright.
Gavin Reid, 21, who was released from his original sentence last
month, will now be returned to jail.
Reid had become angry with Bernard Gall, 59, and flicked a
lighter towards him as he lay in bed in his Aberdeen home.
The duvet caught fire and the flat quickly became engulfed, but
while Reid managed to jump to safety from a window, Mr Gall never
reached the door and died from smoke inhalation.
Reid admitted culpable homicide, and the sentencing judge, Lord
Macphail, said he had to go to jail for such a dangerous action, ...
