UN envoy optimistic about Cyprus reunification
NICOSIA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Visiting UN Under-Secretary-General
for Political Affairs B. Lynn Pascoe has expressed confidence that
the newly revived Cyprus peace process will result in a long-
awaited settlement, despite all the hurdles it faces.
"There are huge expectations out there internationally that
Cyprus will make it this time," Pascoe told reporters Wednesday
before leaving the eastern Mediterranean island.
On Tuesday, the top UN envoy met separately with Turkish Cypriot
leader Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot leader, President
Demetris Christofias, to discuss the latest preparatory work for
reunification talks.
