The U.S. Government Accountability Office on Wednesday, June 18,
upheld Boeing Co.'s protest of the Air Force's decision to choose a
rival for a $35 billion contract to provide 179 new refueling tanker
aircraft.
The GAO recommended that the Air Force reopen the bidding process
that it had used to select Boeing's rival, Northrop Grumman Corp.
and its partner European Aeronautic, Defense and Space Co., parent
of French aircraft maker Airbus.
The GAO, investigative and auditing arm of Congress, concluded
the Air Force failed to follow its own standards in the evaluation
and, in at least one instance, conducted "misleading and unequal
discussions with Boeing."
