Harold and Shirley Kempf, founders in 1967 of Kempf's Donut Bank
Bakery and Coffee Shop, weren't able to attend a ribbon-cutting
ceremony Thursday for the company's newest Evansville location at
Lincoln Avenue and U.S. 41, due to other commitments.
But the couple stole the show just the same.
Their oldest son, 47-year-old Chris, kept the spotlight on the
parents throughout much of his speech.
Chris operates the company today with his brothers, Ben and Joe.
"This is the first store we built without our parents, but
they've been such an inspiration to us. They taught us everything we
know," Chris Kempf said.
