Or months now the UK Independence Party has been muddying the
waters of the post office closure row. It has been exploiting
people's genuine concerns for its own narrow political gain and in
so doing makes it more difficult for people to make a potent case
for keeping their local post office open.
The backlash against the UKIP campaign is beginning to emerge.
This month, two North Devon sub-postmasters wrote to the WMN
complaining that UKIP was damaging their campaigns to keep their
post offices open.
To be successful, they argued, these campaigns needed to
concentrate on local issues such as access to service and the social
and economic consequences to communities.
