Workers at Kennametal Corp.'s Chestnut Ridge and Kingston plants
approve a three-year contract Thursday that outlines the closing of
Chestnut Ridge plant and the layoffs of workers from both Derry
locations.
The contract approved by United Auto Workers Local 1059, which
represents 77 production workers at the Chestnut Ridge plant and
about 35 workers at the Kingston plant, grants severance pay and
benefits to workers who will lose their jobs. The workers at the
Chestnut Ridge plant have more seniority and can displace those
working at the Kingston plant, Kevin Honse, president of UAW Local
1059, said following the vote yesterday at a Derry social hall.
