MORE violent criminals are escaping justice across the region
despite a record number of police officers, the Conservatives have
warned.
Durham Police solved only 64 per cent of violent offences last
year, compared to a 92 per cent detection rate at the start of the
century, according to Home Office figures revealed by the
Conservatives.
The detection rate also plunged in Cleveland (from 88 per cent to
63 per cent), in North Yorkshire (from 89 per cent to 70 per cent)
and Northumbria (from 81 per cent to 70 per cent).
And the Tories pointed out that fewer violent criminals were
being brought to justice despite Labour's much-publicised increase
