This Parador hotel is in a converted royal hospital, founded in
1499 by Ferdinand and Isabella to provide care for the pilgrims
visiting the city. It remained a hospital until 1953. There are four
main cloistered squares with beautiful gardens, and many of the rooms
are decorated with antiques and paintings. The restaurant serves
local specialities, including pimientos de padron, fried tiny sweet
green peppers, and pulpo a la gallego, bite-sized chunks of octopus
served on a wooden board and sprinkled with paprika.
